Competition during windy conditions at Archery Outdoor Recurve Finals Singh & Duncan take home the gold for Individual Men & Women’s matches

Archery Guyana’s Outdoor Recurve Championship Finals kicked off at 12pm on Sunday 16th December, 2018 at the GNS Ground Carifesta Avenue.

Whilst the weather was not a sunny forecast the championship displayed exciting and competitive matches between the archers.

First event was the women semi-final match between Narda Mohamed and Samira Duncan in which Samira Duncan secured a spot in the final against Shereeda Yusuf who benefited from a bye due to a no-show from Vidushi Persaud-McKinnon. The final match after an even start was dominated by Samira Duncan to claim the gold medal with Shereeda Yusuf the silver medal and Narda Mohamed bronze medal.

The Cadet women was a two person match which was dominated by Talitha Kissoon where she won every end to secure the gold medal with Jessica Callender the silver.

The men quarter finals then took to the field with Sean Duncan and Jeewanram Persaud giving onlookers a tense match where they both tied with 5 points each, thus giving onlookers a chance to witness a one arrow shoot off for a tie breaker. Duncan took the opportunity to show his dominance and secured his spot at semi-final.

In the other quarter-final matches Anand Mangra was defeated by Umasankar Madray 2-6 with the quarter finals match being effectively a semi-finals with Nicholas Hing losing to Robert Singh resulting in Robert Singh advancing to finals due to a no show by Ryan McKinnon and Latchman Singh the other quarter finalist.

In the Semi-final Umasankar overcame a poor start to dominate Sean Duncan in the last 3 round to secure  the win and securing a spot at finals.

In the finals Sean Duncan defeated Nicholas Hing 6-2 to secured bronze medal with

Robert Singh displaying calm and brilliance to overcome the favoured Umasankar Madray 6-2 ending the men’s individual with Singh taking gold, Madray silver an Duncan bronze.

For the team shoot-offs Robert Singh and Narda Mohamed dominated as they took gold medal leaving team Anand Mangra and Samira Duncan with silver while Umasankar Madray and Shereeda Yusuf secured bronze.
