MADRAY, DUNCAN & PERSAUD emerged as 2021 National Champions in Archery Guyana’s Indoor Championships sponsored by Seven Seas

After a postponement from last year, Archery Guyana’s Seven Seas Indoor Championship 2021 was held at the Muslim Youth Organisation on Wooldford Avenue and Albert Streets for a two-night of Archery competition which began on Tuesday 15th February, 2022 with the Ranking Rounds which determined the pairing of archers for the competitive elimination shoot out on Thursday 17th February, 2022.

Archers were keenly awaiting the exciting 18 Metre Indoor Championship for men and women of all ages in two categories: Recurve and Barebow.

For the Recurve competition, Samira Duncan took 1st place (gold medal) and Vidushi Persaud-McKinnon received the second spot. The men’s side was heavily contested and Umasankar Madray ranked supreme earning the coveted 1st place (gold medal) with Jeewanram Persaud in 2nd place(silver medal) and Fabian Ramdatt receiving 3rd place (bronze medal).

For the  Barebow competition, Jeewanram Persaud finished top with 1st place (gold medal) followed by Nicholas Hing with 2nd place (silver medal) and Sean Duncan, 3rd place (bronze medal).

The competition was successfully conducted under supervision of the Director of Shooting, Mr. Ryan McKinnon and the Competitions Committee together with the Chair of the Judges Committee, Mr. Robert Singh and his Team of Nationally certified Judges. The Competition was customised to meet strict COVID-19 guidelines.

This Annual indoor championship was sponsored by Seven Seas and the archers were kept hydrated by Archery Guyana’s sponsor Oasis Water. Specially available to participants and spectators at the event was Guyana Beverages Inc.’s new Sports Drink Altitude which contains sodium, potassium and magnesium and comes in 3 flavours – Fruit Punch, Grape and Blue Frost. This product offered the participants the ability to replace electrolytes lost through sweat.

The next competition for Archery Guyana will be the 2021 Outdoor Championships set for Sunday, March 6th at the Guyana National Stadium, Providence.
