Archery Guyana is extremely proud of our lone Guyanese Archer in Medellin, Columbia, flying our Golden Arrowhead. The Colombian city of Medellin is hosting the Americas’ last world ranking event of the season, which will also act as the continent’s last qualifier for the 2022 World Games in Birmingham, USA. The tournament runs from November 2-7 in the sports complex Andres Escobar. More than 70 archers from 13 nations are competing and there are three quota places in the compound men’s and women’s events for Birmingham available. Archery Guyana Head Coach Nicholas Hing on Thursday, August 12, presented to Nations Director Pamela O’Toole at a small ceremony in the school’s compound, ‘School of the Nations Archers’, their official certificate of registration and affiliation together with a bow and arrow set. An excited Pamela O’Toole expressed her joy and enthusiasm at having the opportunity to introduce and develop this new sport to the students together with Archery Guyana whom she thanked for providing the opportunity. Despite the many constraints of competing on the International Arena without a network of support Archery Guyana Devin Persaud Permaul recorded his best international score in an international competition to date. Unfortunately in the elimination round, our Guyanese Archer went against a competitor from Thailand where it came close at 4 vs 4 but in the end Thailand was victorious. Regrettably this meant the end of a glorious run by Devin Persaud Permaul in his participation in the Olympic Qualification process. Guyana’s Devin Permaul is heading to Paris for the 2021 Archery Olympic Final Qualification Tournament.
The final qualification tournament for Tokyo was initially scheduled to be held in Berlin in June 2020. However, following the one-year delay of the Games, it has been replaced by Paris. This Olympic Qualification Tournament in Paris is designated as the final qualification tournament, and for Guyana, it is the last chance for our Guyanese Archer, Devin Permaul to obtain his ticket to the Tokyo Games. The World Archery Americas’ Gender Equity Committee commemorated the International Women’s Day 2021 by launching their ‘Logo Competition” which received a large number of entries from across the Americas. The Panel commended the participants for their creativity and beautiful submissions and as Mrs. Vidushi Persaud-McKinnon the Chair of the WAA’s Gender Equity Committee, noted they considered several criteria for the successful Logo for the WAA Gender Equity Committee.
